What is rodent proofing?
Rodents can get through anything that their heads fit into including very small holes. They may also gnaw to make a gap big enough for them to do so if they're so determined. If you want to protect against them being able to enter your attic and make a mess, rodent proofing is the best solution. An expert will use materials they can't chew through to cover up all the potential entrances.
Can I remove insulation in my attic myself?
You may be able to if it's a simple type of insulation such as a sheet of fiberglass, however, for a safer and easier job overall, hiring a professional is for the best. Most types of insulation are dangerous in some way, from dust with cellulose that can coat the lungs to the slivers of glass that fiberglass is made from. If the proper safety gear isn't worn when handling it, you may be harmed.
Do I need to air seal my attic?
Air leakage can lead to heat loss, energy loss and condensation in the attic. So, if your rooms are drafty or you have high heating/cooling bills, an attic air sealing project may be the solution you are looking for. By air sealing your attic, you will be able to maintain the desired temperature throughout the house, have better control over your expenses and prevent mold growth. When combined with attic insulation, air sealing will help reduce the formation of ice dams.
